Member Benefits
As a member of Durham County Lodge 2, you gain access to numerous benefits at the local, state, and national levels. One of the greatest advantages is having a voice in a member-based organization where your opinions matter. Every member has the opportunity to present ideas, raise concerns at lodge meetings, and vote on important issues.
Local Benefits
Legal Aid
One of the primary benefits of FOP membership is legal aid coverage. We participate in the FOP Legal Defense Plan, which provides coverage for criminal and civil claims. Additionally, administrative claims are covered by the North Carolina Legal Aid Plan. Members may select their own attorney, and the Lodge 2 Executive Board can offer recommendations if needed. Visit the Legal Aid section for more details.
If you are involved in a critical incident, an attorney and the Critical Incident Team will respond to assist you. More information can be found under Critical Incident Team in the Legal Aid section.
Representation
As a member, you will have representation to address career-related issues. The Lodge 2 Executive Board regularly gathers feedback from members and discusses concerns with the Chief of Police and Executive Command Staff. All discussions are shared with members to ensure transparency.

We also maintain an open line of communication with elected officials to address local issues. Whether we support or oppose an issue, our lodge ensures that our members' voices are heard. If you need assistance, you can contact any Lodge 2 Executive Board member.

Communication
Our lodge meetings are open to all members, and participation is encouraged. For those unable to attend, we provide updates via our listserv, social media, and special announcements.
State Benefits

The North Carolina FOP actively fights for better retirement benefits, enhanced training, and increased safeguards for law enforcement officers. We have dedicated representatives in Raleigh lobbying on your behalf to influence state legislation.
Locally, our lodge works with city and county officials to advocate for fair salaries, benefits, and workplace protections. While we are not a union, we stand together to voice concerns and promote positive changes.

Active members are eligible for an official FOP License Plate. Currently, over 5,000 FOP plates are on the road. To apply, visit your local license plate agency and complete an application for a Civic Club License Plate. The annual fee is $30, and you must present your FOP Active Member card.
