Critical Incident Support for Law Enforcement Officers
The last thing any law enforcement officer wants is to be involved in a critical incident. Whether it’s an officer-involved shooting, an in-custody death, or any other serious event requiring immediate legal representation, these situations are highly stressful and can be overwhelming. That’s why Durham County FOP Lodge 2 has established a Critical Incident Team ready to respond and support you when it matters most.
How Our Critical Incident Team Supports You
Our team is composed of Lodge 2 Executive Board Members and dedicated volunteers who are committed to standing by your side throughout the entire process. The moment we are notified of a critical incident, our team will promptly respond to your location to provide the necessary support.

Here’s what you can expect:
-
Immediate Response: Once notified, our first priority is to remove you from the scene and transport you to your agency’s headquarters.
-
Legal Representation: An attorney of your choice will be contacted to meet you. If you don’t have an attorney, we can recommend trusted legal professionals.
-
Family Notification: A team member will assist you in contacting your family to assure them of your safety.
-
Continuous Support: A Critical Incident Team member will stay with you throughout the entire process until you are cleared to go home.
-
Answering Your Questions: We’re here to answer any questions you may have during this time and provide clear guidance.
-
Comfort and Care: We understand these situations can take hours, so we provide food and drinks to help you stay comfortable.
-
Legal Aid Assistance: We will assist you in filing any necessary legal aid claims related to the incident.

Ongoing Support After the Incident
Our commitment doesn’t end when you leave the scene. The Critical Incident Team will continue to follow up with you in the weeks and months following the event to ensure your well-being. We remain available to answer any questions or provide support whenever you need it.

Remember, you’re not alone. The Critical Incident Team is here to help, guide, and support you every step of the way.
